Using the Socket Shield technique to place implants replacing Ankylosed Teeth

Stuart Aherne - 12.40-13.10

In situations where the full removal of Ankylosed teeth will cause considerable bone destruction and an implant is the best course of treatment then this technique can be used to preserve a portion of the tooth to maintain the existing bone. This would normally be the buccal portion creating a shield (hence Socket Shield Technique), with modern digital technology particularly Cone Beam Computerised Tomograghy it can lead to predictable treatment outcomes.
